Fillings & Crowns
Need to get a tooth fixed? Dentist Dr. Rouah at Big Bay Dental in Barrie provides dental filling and crown services for teeth that are damaged and need repairs.
What is a dental filling?
When you have decay in your teeth, the likely result can be a cavity. A filling is a way to restore a damaged or decayed tooth to its normal shape and function.
How does the filling procedure work?
When your dentist gives you a filling, he will first remove the decayed tooth material, clean the affected area, and then fill the cleaned out cavity with a filling material.
Why is it important to get a filling?
You may not realize, but a damaged or decayed tooth can expose the interior of the tooth to bacteria. Once bacteria gets into your tooth, it can eat away at the enamel which may cause an infection in your tooth.
If you get your tooth taken care of early on, you reduce the risk of it getting infected. This can cause pain or tooth loss which may result in a root canal or tooth removal.
What are dental crowns?
When you have damage to a tooth either caused by decay or by an accident, you may require a crown, or a cap, to be placed on top of your tooth. Crowns are placed on teeth to restore function, size and shape.
Crowns are made out of materials that will reinforce and strengthen your teeth. Since porcelain is white-coloured, crowns can also be used for aesthetic purposes. If you have previously had a broken, chipped, poorly shaped or had a root canal on a tooth, your dentist may recommend that you get a crown.
How does the crown procedure work?
At Big Bay Dental in Barrie, we have a CEREC machine that can quickly produce your custom-made crowns.
Dr. Rouah will take impressions of your smile so that your crown is designed perfectly fit your smile. He will then place the crown during your second appointment using bonding materials.
